Douglas A2D-1 Skyshark 125482. The third production aircraft of ten completed, 125482 was bailed to the Allison Engine Company for flight testing of turboprop engines at Edwards Air Force Base in California, later moving to Indianapolis. This aircraft had a brief flash of fame when it broke a speed record from Indianapolis to Opa Locka, Florida, in a time of 2 hours 38 minutes. Allison continued to fly their three Skysharks for several years, supporting their other products. Of the 2 proto Types and 10 production aircraft completed 4 never flew and were scrapped with no hours on the clock. Date: circa 1957

Originally bailed to the Allison Engine Company for flight testing of turboprop engines at Edwards Air Force Base in California, 125482 later relocated to Indianapolis. The Skyshark made headlines when it set a speed record from Indianapolis to Opa Locka, Florida, in a remarkable time of just 2 hours and 38 minutes. Allison Engine Company continued to fly their three Skysharks for several years, utilizing them to support their other products. Sadly, of the two prototype types and ten production aircraft completed, four never saw the light of day. These unfortunate Skysharks were never flown and were ultimately scrapped with no hours on their clocks.
