Originally assigned to the 4756th Air Defense Wing (ADW) and the 18th Fighter Interceptor Squadron (FIS), this Delta Dagger saw action during the 1960s, with deployments to Louisiana, North Dakota, and Texas Air National Guard units, including the 122nd, 178th, and 182nd Fighter Interceptor Squadrons. In November 1969, the Delta Dagger was put into storage at the Air Material Area Research and Development Center (AMARC) bone yard, marking the end of its active military service. However, its story did not end there. In February 1977, the aircraft was salvaged, preserving a piece of aviation history from the 1960s era. The Convair F-102A-80-CO Delta Dagger (56-1518) is a testament to the dedication and service of the men and women who flew and maintained these aircraft during their time in the USAF and National Guard.
