United States Air Force - North American JF-86F Sabre 52-4608 (msn 191-304), with belly mounted Rocketdyne AR 2-3 rocket engine and two large 200 gal hydrogen peroxide underwing oxidiser tanks. Armed with two GAR-8A (later designated AIM-9B) Sidewinder missiles, it was able to climb to 30, 000 ft in 24 seconds. 1953-54: 81st FBS (50th FBW). Then 4530th CCTW.1959: Converted to F-86F(R)July 1960: Re-designated as JF-86F.Sold to civilian market, sans rocket engine, with registration N57963.Currently preserved in San Martin, CA.. Date: 1960

This photograph showcases a United States Air Force North American JF-86F Sabre jet fighter, specifically the aircraft with the serial number 52-4608 (msn 191-304). The JF-86F Sabre is a variant of the iconic Sabre series, known for its sleek design and exceptional performance. In this image, the Sabre is equipped with a belly-mounted Rocketdyne AR 2-3 rocket engine and two large 200 gal hydrogen peroxide underwing oxidizer tanks. These modifications enabled the Sabre to achieve remarkable climbing capabilities, reaching an altitude of 30,000 ft in just 24 seconds. The JF-86F Sabre in the photograph was initially assigned to the 81st Fighter-Bomber Squadron (50th Fighter-Bomber Wing) during the late 1950s. Later, it was transferred to the 4530th Combat Crew Training Wing. In July 1960, the aircraft was converted to the F-86F(R) model and was eventually re-designated as the JF-86F. After its military service, the Sabre was sold to the civilian market, albeit without the rocket engine. The aircraft now bears the registration N57963 and is proudly preserved in San Martin, California. This photograph offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of the United States Air Force's aviation prowess during the 1960s.
