EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the United States Air Force Reserve's Fairchild C-123K Provider with the serial number 54-0681 (msn 20131), parked at Westover Air Force Base. Originally manufactured as a Fairchild C-123B-9-FA Provider in 1956, this military transport aircraft served the US military under the designation 681. In the late 1980s, it was converted to C-123K configuration and later registered as N681DG for civilian use. However, the jet engines were removed in the process, effectively restoring it to its original C-123B configuration. After being preserved at Sheppard Air Force Base, the historic aircraft was sold to the Hagerstown Aviation Museum in Maryland in 2013. This photograph, taken in 1975, captures a significant moment in the life of this iconic military transport plane as it continues to be a part of American aviation history.
