EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage photograph captures the United States Marine Corps (USMC) Douglas EF-10B Skyknight 124619 during tests at Naval Air Station China Lake in California, in the late 1950s or early 1960s. The Douglas EF-10B, originally a Douglas F3D-2Q Skyknight, underwent modifications to become an electronic warfare aircraft, with the designation EF-10B. This specific aircraft, bearing unit code RM and call sign 3, was assigned to the USMC's VMCJ-1 squadron during this period. The Douglas EF-10B Skyknight 124619 underwent several unit assignments throughout its service life. It was later assigned to VMCJ-3 as TN-xx in 1969. The aircraft's distinctive markings and unit codes are clearly visible in this photograph, providing a glimpse into its rich history. After completing its tests at Naval Air Station China Lake, the Douglas EF-10B Skyknight 124619 was eventually put into storage at the Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center (AMARC) bone yard on 23 June 1970 and was eventually struck off charge. This photograph offers a unique look into the history of USMC aviation during the 1960s and the evolution of the Douglas Skyknight into the EF-10B electronic warfare aircraft. The Douglas EF-10B Skyknight was a significant aircraft in USMC aviation history, and this photograph serves as a reminder of its important role in the development of electronic warfare capabilities for the USMC.
