Registration history: First flown on 3 July 1953. 53/9/23 :delivered to Air France as F-BGNM 60/9: Maitland Drewery Aviation as G-ARER 61/5/29 - 61/11/2: BKS Air Transport Ended its days with Air Inter in France as F-BEOA, from June 1966 and was written off at-Clermont Ferrand, France, on take-off with simulated Engine out. The aircraft swung off the runway and was damaged beyond repair. Date: 1969

This photograph showcases Vickers Viscount 708 G-ARER (msn 012) of Maitland Drewery Aviation, gracefully parked at Southend Airport. With a rich history that spans over six decades, this iconic aircraft was first flown on the 3rd of July, 1953, and was delivered to Air France as F-BGNM later that same year. In 1961, it was registered as G-ARER with Maitland Drewery Aviation, and was later transferred to BKS Air Transport. The Viscount's tenure with BKS Air Transport came to an end in 1966 when it joined the ranks of Air Inter in France, where it was known as F-BEOA. Tragically, in 1969, during a simulated engine-out takeoff training exercise, the aircraft veered off the runway at Clermont-Ferrand, France, and was written off, sustaining damages beyond repair. This photograph captures the essence of a bygone era in aviation history, with the timeless beauty and grace of the Vickers Viscount 708 on full display.
