1501 Aleksander Coronations Crowned Krakow Poland Polish

EDITORS COMMENTS
This historic print depicts the momentous occasion of the coronation of King Aleksander Jagiellonczyk of Poland in the Royal Wawel Castle in Krakow, on March 31, 1501. Jagiellonczyk, a member of the Jagiellon dynasty, was chosen as the new king of Poland following the death of his uncle, King Jan Olbracht. The coronation was a grand affair, attended by nobles, clergy, and commoners from all corners of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The coronation ceremony was steeped in rich Polish customs and traditions. The king was anointed with holy oil, clad in robes of ermine, and crowned with the golden, jewel-encrusted crown of Poland, known as the "Crown of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania." The ceremony was officiated by the Archbishop of Gniezno and Primate of Poland, and was followed by a grand procession through the streets of Krakow, where the new king was greeted by the cheers and acclamations of the people. The print captures the solemnity and grandeur of the occasion, with the king seated on the ornate throne, surrounded by the bishops, nobles, and other dignitaries. The intricate details of their robes and headdresses are beautifully rendered, as are the ornate decorations of the castle and the intricate patterns on the throne. The print also provides a glimpse into the rich history and cultural traditions of Poland in the early 16th century, a time of great political and artistic achievements. This print is a testament to the enduring legacy of the Jagiellon dynasty and the rich cultural heritage of Poland. It is a reminder of the importance of tradition and continuity in the face of change, and a celebration of the resilience and strength of the Polish people.
