Pudney, touched down at Cape St Mary (Bathurst), Gambia, on 1 March 1931. They had embarked on an ambitious survey flight from Hanworth, England, in the Blackburn Bluebird IV, registration number G-ABGF. Their destination was the West African coast, with plans to travel via Tangier to Bathurst. The Blackburn Bluebird IV was a remarkable aircraft for its time, designed for long-range transport and survey missions.
