EDITORS COMMENTS
In this historic photograph, taken on August 17, 1930, at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan, aviation pioneers Orville Wright and Henry Ford stand proudly next to Griffith Brewer as they dedicate the Wright Homestead. The Wright Homestead, a replica of the Wright brothers' childhood home in Dayton, Ohio, was relocated and rebuilt at Greenfield Village as part of Henry Ford's quest to preserve American history. Orville Wright, wearing a suit and holding a microphone, addresses the crowd gathered for the dedication ceremony. Henry Ford, dressed in a simple work shirt and trousers, listens intently. Griffith Brewer, wearing a bowler hat and holding a cane, looks on with a smile. Behind them, a Wright Flyer III airplane, the same model that made the first long-distance flight in 1908, is on display. The plane, which was donated by Henry Ford to the Smithsonian Institution in 1942 and later returned to Greenfield Village in 1979, symbolizes the groundbreaking achievements of the Wright brothers in the field of aviation. The Wright brothers' invention of the airplane revolutionized transportation and opened up a new era of travel and exploration. Henry Ford, who was deeply interested in aviation and held several patents for aircraft designs, was a strong supporter of their work. The dedication of the Wright Homestead at Greenfield Village was a testament to their enduring legacy and the importance of preserving American history. The photograph captures a moment of pride and celebration, as two pioneers of transportation stand together to honor the past and look towards the future. The Wright Homestead remains a popular attraction at Greenfield Village, where visitors can learn about the lives and accomplishments of the Wright brothers and the role they played in shaping the world we live in today.
