EDITORS COMMENTS
N4062: The Fairey Fulmar I in Action The Fairey Fulmar I, registration number N4062, is a classic biplane fighter aircraft that saw active service during the mid-20th century. Manufactured by the Fairey Aviation Company, this particular Fulmar was part of the Fleet Air Arm, the naval branch of the Royal Air Force. The Fulmar I was a versatile aircraft, designed primarily as a fighter, but also capable of performing reconnaissance and anti-shipping roles. It was powered by a Rolls-Royce Griffon engine, which gave it a top speed of over 300 miles per hour. The biplane configuration, with its distinctive gull-wing design, provided excellent lift and maneuverability, making it a formidable presence in the skies. N4062 was in service during World War II and saw action in various theaters, including the Mediterranean and the Pacific. Its distinctive markings, featuring the RAF roundel and the red, white, and blue stripes of the Fleet Air Arm, are clearly visible in this photograph. The aircraft is shown in flight, with the sun casting long shadows on the water below, highlighting the sleek lines of the Fulmar I. The Fairey Fulmar I was retired from service in the late 1950s, but it remains a beloved icon of aviation history. N4062, with its rich history and iconic design, is a testament to the ingenuity and innovation of the engineers and pilots who brought these magnificent machines to life. This photograph captures a moment in time, a snapshot of history, and a reminder of the incredible feats of engineering and courage that defined a generation.
