This exquisite Shabti figure, dating back to around 1520 BC, is a testament to the artistic and religious traditions of ancient Egypt during the New Kingdom period. The Shabti, also known as Ushabti or Ushabtis, were funerary figurines believed to serve the deceased in the afterlife. This particular Shabti represents King Ahmose I, the founder of the 18th Dynasty and the first pharaoh of the New Kingdom. The figure is made of limestone and stands approximately 11 cm tall. King Ahmose I is depicted as an anthropomorphic figure wearing the nemes headdress, a symbol of royalty and divine authority. His arms are crossed over his chest in a gesture of reverence and submission, a common attribute of Shabti figures. Inscriptions on the figure's base read "Osiris, the servant of the king, true of voice, who is in the presence of the king, who is given bread, beer, and clothing, and who is ordered to carry out the tasks of the king." This Shabti figure was likely created in Thebes, the ancient capital city of Egypt, and is now part of the esteemed collection at the British Museum in London, United Kingdom. The figure's preservation and intricate details are a reminder of the advanced craftsmanship and artistic achievements of ancient Egypt, as well as the complex religious beliefs that shaped their culture and society over 3,500 years ago.
