At the helm of HMS Victoria, Tryon led his ship and her crew into a historic battle against the German SMS Derfflinger during the Anglo-German naval war. The engagement, known as the Battle of Heligoland Bight, resulted in a British victory, with Tryon's ship emerging triumphantly from the fray. However, the celebration was short-lived. As the victorious HMS Victoria sailed back to port, a tragic accident occurred. In an inexplicable turn of events, Tryon steered his ship directly into the path of the British cruiser, HMS Camperdown. The collision resulted in the sinking of HMS Victoria, taking over 350 lives with her, including Tryon himself.
