Tower Bridge Open: A Feat of Engineering Mastery on the Thames This photograph showcases the iconic Tower Bridge in London, a magnificent bascule bridge that spans the River Thames. Designed by Horace Jones in 1886, the bridge was an ambitious project that aimed to provide better transport access across the Thames without obstructing the navigation of larger vessels. Tragically, Horace Jones passed away in 1887, before the bridge was completed. The bridge was then taken under the wing of Sir John Wolfe-Barry, who saw the project through to completion in 1894.
