EDITORS COMMENTS
In the heart of London, on a crisp February morning in 1930, the Registry Office at Princes Row played host to one of the most highly anticipated society weddings of the year. The Duke of Westminster, Hugh Grosvenor, and his stunning bride, Loelia Ponsonby, exchanged vows in a quiet, intimate ceremony. The Duke, the wealthiest man in England, had finally found love in the beautiful and elegant Loelia, making her his third wife. Following their nuptials, the newlyweds made their grand exit from Westminster Pier, where they boarded a speedboat that would take them to their next mode of transport. Awaiting them at Deptford was the Duke's converted torpedo destroyer, the Cutty Sark, which would carry them on their dream honeymoon aboard their yacht. Loelia, bundled up in a luxurious fur coat, one of many extravagant wedding gifts bestowed upon her by the Duke, looked every inch the happy and radiant bride. The couple, who would go on to enjoy a lavish honeymoon cruising the Mediterranean, were the epitome of aristocratic elegance and opulence. Despite their seemingly perfect union, the Duke and Loelia's marriage was not to last. After years of separation, they eventually divorced in 1947. Nevertheless, their wedding day remains a captivating moment in the annals of British aristocratic history.
