EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the remarkable sculptures of Mrs. Cartwright, a renowned artist known for her controversial and powerful works. Among them is "Leda and the Swan" a striking piece depicting a massive swan with an intentionally phallic neck coercing a naked girl into the water. Another thought-provoking sculpture titled "Ondine" portrays a nude girl being dragged underwater by her heels in a pond. The collection also includes "Idealists" featuring a vulnerable male figure suspended from an oak tree by his wrists, and "Lucifer" depicted standing on his head. These evocative bronzes are strategically placed across the expansive lawns of Banacle Edge, located in Witley, Surrey – the home of sculptress Mrs. Lucette Cartwright herself. Over recent years, she has gained recognition for her sensuous and erotic sculptures that have sparked both admiration and controversy alike. Born to French parents in London, Mrs. Cartwright honed her artistic skills at Regent Street Polytechnic where she was awarded the prestigious Polytechnic Gold Medal under Harold Brownsward's guidance. Her exceptional talent has earned her inclusion in an upcoming exhibition featuring new works by 14 leading British Sculptors held at Holland Park courtesy of G. L. C (Greater London Council) in April 1975. This fascinating photograph captured by Mirrorpix from Memory Lane Prints offers viewers a glimpse into Mrs. Cartwright's extraordinary creations while highlighting their provocative nature and undeniable allure.
