Downfall of a birdman who found it wasn t so easy to fly
Downfall of a birdman who found it wasn t so easy to fly: Birdman Walter Cornelius tried to fly across a river on Thursday- a trip of only a few minutes as the crow flies. Walter alas, is no crow. But he was determined to succeed. Wearing a pair of wings made of canvas and balsa wood, he climbed on to the 35ft-high roof of a supermarket in Peterborough, Lincolnshire.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print titled "Downfall of a birdman who found it wasn't so easy to fly" we witness the extraordinary ambition and ultimate disappointment of Birdman Walter Cornelius. Eager to conquer the skies, Walter embarked on a daring mission to fly across a river in Peterborough, Lincolnshire. Armed with nothing but his determination and an unconventional pair of wings crafted from canvas and balsa wood, Walter ascended the towering 35ft-high roof of a local supermarket. The year was December 1970, an era marked by transport innovations and aviation breakthroughs. As he stood atop that precipice, ready to take flight like a majestic crow, little did Walter know that his dreams would soon be shattered. Despite his valiant efforts and unwavering spirit, he quickly discovered that soaring through the air was far more challenging than anticipated. This photograph captures both the humor and poignancy of Walter's failed attempt at flight. It serves as a reminder that even our most audacious aspirations can sometimes elude us. Yet, it is precisely these moments of vulnerability that make us human – reminding us to embrace our limitations while never ceasing to dream big. Transported back in time by this image from Memory Lane Prints, we are invited to reflect on the indomitable human spirit and its relentless pursuit of conquering new frontiers – whether they be literal or metaphorical.
