Lynne Stevens, assistant manager, polishes the 1962 Ford Consul in the lounge of the George, Bilton, Rugby.
Not content with horse brasses and toby jugs, Elain Chapman, the owner of this Warwickshire pub has made the centrepiece a car...suspended from the ceiling. The car came from a scrap yard and the ceiling had to be strengthened before the bright pink car was hoisted up. The regulars were impressed but were wary to sit underneath it.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from 1988, we see Lynne Stevens, the assistant manager of The George pub in Bilton, Rugby, meticulously polishing a vintage 1962 Ford Consul. However, what makes this scene truly unique is that the car is suspended from the lounge's ceiling. Elain Chapman, the creative owner of this Warwickshire establishment, decided to add a touch of eccentricity to her pub by transforming a scrapyard find into an eye-catching centerpiece. Before hoisting up the bright pink automobile, the ceiling had to be reinforced to ensure its stability. The regulars at The George were left astounded by this unconventional decoration but approached it with caution when choosing their seats beneath it. While horse brasses and toby jugs are common pub ornaments, Elain's choice of a suspended car was certainly out-of-the-box. This photograph captures not only Lynne's dedication as she carefully tends to every detail of the vehicle but also showcases Elain's boldness in creating an unforgettable ambiance for her patrons. It serves as a nostalgic reminder of how pubs can become more than just places for drinks and socializing; they can be transformed into havens where imagination knows no bounds. As we delve into Memory Lane Prints' collection through Mirrorpix lens, let us appreciate these snapshots that immortalize moments like these – where ordinary objects transcend their original purpose and become extraordinary symbols within our collective memories.
