EDITORS COMMENTS

This print takes us back to the vibrant music scene of the 1970s. The iconic British rock band, The Who, is seen here in all their glory as they appeared in concert at the Lanchester Polytechnic Students Union building. The image captures a moment of both triumph and challenge for the band and the Students Union alike. Eager to deliver an unforgettable performance, The Who requested a new stage be built at a considerable cost of £100. However, due to safety regulations imposed by the police, only a limited number of fans were allowed inside, resulting in potential financial loss for the Students Union. Despite these obstacles, Bob Jones, the social secretary who orchestrated this remarkable event, couldn't contain his satisfaction with how everything unfolded. Notably so because this concert also coincided with his own 21st birthday celebration! What better way to mark such a milestone than by sharing it with one of rock 'n' roll's most legendary acts? As we gaze upon this snapshot frozen in time from November 28th, 1970, we can almost feel the electric energy that filled that night. It serves as a testament to not only The Who's enduring impact on music but also to those dedicated individuals like Bob Jones who worked tirelessly behind-the-scenes to bring such extraordinary experiences within reach of eager fans.
