EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, Terry Hall and The Colourfield take center stage at Coventry Lanchester Polytechnic during the Cov Aid event in 1985. This remarkable concert was organized to support the noble cause of feeding starving children in Africa. For The Colourfield, it marked their hometown debut, adding an extra layer of significance to the electrifying performance. The event showcased a total of 15 bands from the Coventry area, each delivering a powerful 20-minute set in a six-and-a-half-hour celebration of music and compassion. With more than 800 enthusiastic pop fans filling two halls, the atmosphere was nothing short of electric as these talented musicians poured their hearts out on stage. Beyond its musical brilliance, Cov Aid achieved something truly extraordinary by raising over £3,200 for the war against hunger in Ethiopia and Sudan. This act of solidarity demonstrated that even through art and entertainment, communities can come together to make a profound impact on pressing global issues. This snapshot from Memory Lane Prints encapsulates not only an iconic moment in Coventry's music history but also serves as a timeless reminder that youth has always possessed the power to bring about positive change. As we look back on this photograph today, we are reminded of how music can transcend boundaries and unite people for a greater cause – inspiring us all to continue fighting for justice and equality around the world.
