Part of the Lancaster crew, to arrive from RAF Coningsby, was RAF master engineer, Derek Butcher, 54, of Jackson Avenue, Ponteland.
The aircraft were to take part in the Tyneside Military Tattoo, giving a 15 minute display at South Shields.
