Crowds besieged Binns department store when disc-jockey

Crowds besieged Binns department store when disc-jockey and television star Noel Edmonds came to Newcastle. Between signing copies of the second Multi-Coloured Swap Shop book, Noel said he was glad to be back in the North East but wouldn t have much time for sight-seeing.
After meeting his fans in the city centre shop he was presenting a disco at a nightclub and was then due in Sunderland.
He never tired of signing autographs saying, " I wouldn t do it if I didn t enjoy it, " When asked which aspect of his busy broadcasting life he enjoyed best of all he replied, " I like working on my farm at home best of all."

EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage print captures the electrifying atmosphere as crowds flock to Binns department store in Newcastle, eagerly awaiting the arrival of disc-jockey and television star Noel Edmonds. The occasion? A book signing event for his second Multi-Coloured Swap Shop book. Despite being swarmed by fans, Noel expressed his delight at being back in the North East but admitted he wouldn't have much time for sight-seeing. After graciously meeting his adoring fans within the bustling city centre shop, Noel's busy schedule continued with a disco presentation at a nightclub before heading off to Sunderland. Autograph signings seemed to be an activity that never tired him; he even mentioned that he wouldn't engage in it if he didn't enjoy it. When asked about his favorite aspect of his hectic broadcasting life, Noel surprising revealed that working on his farm at home was what brought him the most joy. Dated November 7th, 1979, this image showcases not only the charisma and popularity of Noel Edmonds during this era but also highlights elements such as fashion trends (beards), entertainment culture (books and radio), and the excitement generated by celebrity appearances in local shops. This photograph from Memory Lane Prints truly encapsulates a moment frozen in time when one man's presence could ignite such fervor among devoted fans.
