Emley First School Celebrates Bill Forde's Latest Story with a Charitable Twist

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this heartwarming snapshot from 1992, Emley First School proudly hosts the first reading of renowned author Bill Forde's latest story, "Douglas The Dragon III". This tale was inspired by the re-organization of schools in Mirfield and aimed to convey an important message to young minds. Mr. Forde, a dedicated probation officer from Mirfield, had spent two years touring Kirklees schools with his stories that carried profound messages. The event held at Emley First School was not only about storytelling but also about giving back to the community. A generous donation of £90 was presented to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary's special care baby unit. This significant sum had been raised through sales of a Douglas-themed song cassette. It is truly inspiring how children and their families came together to support such a worthy cause. Captured in this photograph are three individuals who played pivotal roles in making this event possible: Mr. Stuart Merry, the headteacher of Emley First School; Mr. Paul Jay from Trustee Savings Bank, which sponsored recordings of songs based on Mr. Forde's stories; and lastly, the man himself - Mr. Bill Forde. This image serves as a reminder that education can be both entertaining and enlightening while instilling values like compassion and empathy within our future generations.
