Young environmentalists are hoping to create a wildlife wonderland, from an old graveyard

Young environmentalists are hoping to create a wildlife wonderland, from an old graveyard. Members of the Robin Hood Watch Group are to transform the neglected Lindley Methodist Church grounds into a nature reserve. Leaders of the group were presented with a £ 100 cheque towards new tools, nesting boxes and saplings. Organiser Mr Fred Ardron said the long-term project would tidy up the overgrown graveyard and provide an environmental boost for the area. Mr Ardron, right, and his many band of helpers receive the cheque from Barclays Mr Ivor Nicholas, as the Lindley Methodist minister the Rev Robert Lomax, left, looks on. 17th March 1990

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from 1990, young environmentalists are seen brimming with hope and determination as they embark on a mission to transform an old graveyard into a wildlife wonderland. The members of the Robin Hood Watch Group have taken up the noble task of converting the neglected Lindley Methodist Church grounds into a thriving nature reserve. With their hearts set on revitalizing the overgrown graveyard, these passionate individuals were presented with a generous £100 cheque by Barclays bank towards acquiring new tools, nesting boxes, and saplings. Led by organizer Mr Fred Ardron, they envision not only tidying up the area but also providing an essential environmental boost for their community. Captured in this image is Mr Ardron alongside his dedicated band of helpers receiving the symbolic cheque from Barclays representative Mr Ivor Nicholas. Standing witness to this inspiring moment is Lindley Methodist minister Rev Robert Lomax, whose presence signifies both spiritual support and appreciation for these young conservationists' efforts. This snapshot encapsulates the essence of childhood innocence intertwined with a deep sense of responsibility towards our planet's well-being. It serves as a reminder that even in times past, children played an active role in safeguarding nature and preserving its beauty for future generations. Decades later, we look back at this photograph as a testament to youthful enthusiasm and unwavering dedication to creating positive change within our environment.
