EDITORS COMMENTS
In this heartwarming print from 1989, we see Mrs Mary Glazzard of the Oakes and Lindley Kirkwood Hospice Support Group receiving a generous £400 cheque from Lynn Cartwright, a fifth former at Rastrick High School. The school's incredible fundraising efforts have resulted in over £2,700 being raised through various events such as non-uniform days, discos, a "wet the teacher" event, and even a sponsored walk. The school's advisory forum, consisting of students from all years along with teachers and governors, made the decision to donate £1,000 to charities while using the rest towards purchasing a new mini-bus for the school. Other deserving charities that received donations include Killingbeck Children's Heart Surgery Fund (£200), Martin House Hospice (£200), Halifax Bodyscanner Appeal (£100), and Halifax RSPCA (£100). This snapshot captures not only the immense gratitude expressed by Mrs Glazzard but also showcases the power of community involvement and compassion among young individuals. It is evident that these students are learning valuable lessons about empathy and philanthropy at an early age. This photograph serves as a reminder of how acts of kindness can make a significant impact on those in need. The dedication shown by both Mrs Glazzard and Rastrick High School exemplifies their commitment to supporting local causes related to health care and animal welfare. Overall, this image encapsulates the spirit of giving during the 1980s while highlighting
