Holding their horses... Even hobby-horses will be banned at the Horseless Horse Trials at

Holding their horses... Even hobby-horses will be banned at the Horseless Horse Trials at Bramham Park, between Leeds and York, on Saturday. Six teams of five pupils and staff from Newsome High School are taking part in the event, organised by Roundhay Rotary Club, Leeds, and billed as the world championship. There will be no horseplay when the entrants run the six-mile course and climb under, over or through the 27 fences - including the water jumps. Biology teacher Mr Steve Reynolds (right), who has organised the Newsome teams and will be taking part, said members had been running three or four miles every lunchtime since Christmas. They will be helping to raise the clubs £ 10, 000 target for three charities - BBC Children in Need, Riding for the Disabled and Polio Plus. 8th June 1988. © Mirrorpix

Holding their horses. . . There will be no horseplay when the entrants run the six-mile course and climb under, over or through the 27 fences - including water jumps. Biology teacher Mr Steve Reynolds (right), who has organised the Newsome teams and will be taking part, said members had been running three or four miles every lunchtime since Christmas. They will be helping to raise £10,000 target for three charities - BBC Children in Need, Riding for the Disabled and Polio Plus. In this print from June 8th, 1988 we see a group of determined students from Newsome High School preparing for their participation in the Horseless Horse Trials at Bramham Park. With passion burning bright in their eyes and determination etched on their faces, these young athletes have dedicated themselves to intense training sessions leading up to this prestigious event. Led by biology teacher Mr Steve Reynolds (seen on right), who has tirelessly organized his team's preparations while also joining them as a participant himself. The trials promise an exhilarating challenge with a six-mile course featuring 27 obstacles that demand both physical prowess and mental agility. However, it is not just personal glory that drives these remarkable individuals; they are also committed to raising funds for charitable causes close to their hearts. Their efforts aim to support BBC Children in Need, Riding for Disabled, and Polio Plus initiatives while contributing towards Roundhay Rotary Club's ambitious goal of reaching £10k. This snapshot captures a moment filled with anticipation as these spirited students embark on an unforgettable journey where teamwork meets philanthropy.
