A local Scout has been camping out since the beginning of February in a bid to win a trip
A local Scout has been camping out since the beginning of February in a bid to win a trip for his patrol to the World Scout Jamboree in South Korea. Lawrence Thornton, 13, of Highburton, a member of Thurstonland Scout troop, decided to take up camping as part of the Scout movements Go For a Million challenge. Scouts aim to score as many points as possible as they aim for a million, and Lawrence (left) - seen with his Scout colleague, James Hampshire - is boosting the total with each night he spends under canvas. He has been away on camping trips with his Scout group, but most of his nights in his tent have been in the garden at home. He admits the lawn is wearing a bit thin, but he says he plans to go on camping for as long as possible. 4th July 1990
