A fitness challenge day Kirkburton Karate Club raised over £
A fitness challenge day Kirkburton Karate Club raised over £ 1000 for Huddersfield Royal Infirmarys special care baby unit. All students had to complete eight different exercise sections which included press ups, squats and leg swings. Then they raised more money for the privilege of throwing wet sponges at their instructors. Chief instructor Colin Hanson, junior instructor Neal Travis and John Wainwright were challenged by Naylor Myers Ltd to lift as many bags of sand as they could in 30 minutes. John took the lead with 149, Neil lifted 144 and Colin 138. Individual donations came from Robert Sloane, of Topo Gigios, the Spring Grove Pub and Shaws Services. 12th July 1989

A Fitness Challenge Day - Kirkburton Karate Club Raises Over £1000 for Huddersfield Royal Infirmary's Special Care Baby Unit
EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this photo print, we witness the incredible dedication and generosity of the Kirkburton Karate Club in West Yorkshire during a fitness challenge day held on July 12th, 1989. The club organized this event to raise funds for the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary's special care baby unit. All students of the karate club eagerly participated in eight different exercise sections, which included demanding activities like press-ups, squats, and leg swings. Their determination was truly inspiring as they pushed themselves to their limits for a noble cause. But that wasn't all - these remarkable individuals went above and beyond by raising additional money through an unconventional method. They had the privilege of throwing wet sponges at their instructors! Laughter filled the air as everyone enjoyed this lighthearted yet effective fundraising activity. The highlight of the day came when Chief Instructor Colin Hanson, Junior Instructor Neal Travis, and John Wainwright were challenged by Naylor Myers Ltd to lift as many bags of sand as possible within just 30 minutes. John emerged victorious with an impressive count of 149 bags lifted, closely followed by Neil with 144 and Colin with 138. This heartwarming event wouldn't have been possible without generous individual donations from Robert Sloane (Topo Gigios), The Spring Grove Pub, and Shaws Services
