Enhancing Comfort and Care - WRVS Supports Families at North Riding Infirmary
EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this heartwarming photograph from July 23,1985, we witness the positive impact of community support on healthcare facilities. At North Riding Infirmary in Middlesbrough, an area has been thoughtfully designated for parents awaiting their children's ear, nose, and throat surgeries. Thanks to the generosity of the Women's Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS), this space has been transformed into a haven of comfort. The WRVS raised an impressive £1000 through their tea-bar initiative over the past year and a half. This remarkable accomplishment allowed them to furnish the waiting area with cozy easy chairs, tables, and privacy screens. Mrs Betty Smith proudly presents these much-needed amenities to sisters Catherine Fullalove and Pauline Eltringham who oversee the children's ward. Moreover, recognizing that entertainment plays a vital role in healing young patients' spirits during hospital stays, the WRVS also donated a vibrant color television for use on the ward. The dedication of individuals like Mrs Dianah King and Mrs Joy Oram is evident as they stand alongside other committed members who tirelessly work in the tea bar. This touching snapshot serves as a reminder that compassion knows no bounds when it comes to supporting those in need within our local communities. The collaborative efforts between volunteers and medical staff ensure that families facing difficult times find solace amidst uncertainty while their children receive exceptional care at North Riding Infirmary.
