Newshound was barking up the right tree when he rounded off a book week at Cumberworth

Newshound was barking up the right tree when he rounded off a book week at Cumberworth First school in his own inimitable style. The cuddly canine helped Margaret Overend, complier of the Examiners childrens page, to tell the pupils all about newspapers. Pupil Hannah Brook is seen reading a story to Newshound, the children, and Margaret Overend, who is pictured in the background. Earlier in the week, the school had been visited by author and illustrator Richard Bell, who talked about his book, Deep in the Wood. Pandoras Puppet Circus delighted the children with a show called Princess Polly To The Rescue. Headmaster Mr Paul Wathen said: " The purpose of the week was to develop in the children a love for books". 13th November 1987. © Mirrorpix
