Youngsters at a Huddersfield community centre have launched a fight to keep their youth
Youngsters at a Huddersfield community centre have launched a fight to keep their youth worker. Children at a youth group at the Hudawi centre want to keep Miss Glendene Gill, whose year-long contract is up this month, and are prepared to dig into their own pockets to help pay her wages. Some of the youngsters involved are picture with Miss Gill and a petition calling for her contract to be renewed. Miss Gill has been employed by Kirklees Council to run youth activities at the centre for the past year. Now the 30 or so youngsters in her charge are holding raffles and fund-raising events in a bid to pay her wages for the next few months. Miss Gill said: " The scheme I work on is due to finish in another six months and I understand the council would have to bring someone else in for the next few months after I leave." 21st November 1987. © Mirrorpix
