Deighton school delivers the goods. Charity fever... The 700 pupils and staff at Deighton High School have turned fund-raising for the Band Aid appeal for Africa into a mini business ? and are raising an average of £ 100 a week. Since the summer holidays they have collected a third of a tonne of food and raised £ 1, 000, aid organiser Mr Gary Wilson, teacher in charge of multi-cultural education. And the next stage is to take part in a new twinning scheme launched by Band Aid. British schools will twin with orphanages and childrens communities in Africa to help them financially and give books and toys. Money being raised now will go towards the twinning scheme. Fund-raising events being held are sponsored silences, break-dancing displays, raffles and talent competitions. Tuck shops are organised, and male teachers have raised money by shaving off half their beards or dressing as women for the day. Reaching the £ 1, 000 mark....
