These young swimmers form the 10th Holme Valley (New Mill) scouts raised £

These young swimmers form the 10th Holme Valley (New Mill) scouts raised £ 155 when they completed a sponsored swim at Cambridge Road Baths. Twenty-two boys helped raised the money for group scout funds to pay for maintenance of their building and camping equipment. Cubs completed 10 lengths and scouts did 15. EDITORS COMMENTS

This nostalgic print captures a moment of pride and accomplishment for the young swimmers from the 10th Holme Valley (New Mill) scouts. In their quest to support their group scout funds, these determined boys embarked on a sponsored swim at Cambridge Road Baths in 1985. With unwavering determination, they completed an impressive number of lengths - ten for the Cubs and fifteen for the Scouts. Their efforts were not in vain, as they managed to raise an astounding £155 through their swimming endeavors. This generous contribution would go towards maintaining their beloved scout building and essential camping equipment. The event was made even more special by the presence of Mr Bruce Briggs, chairman of the district scout council, who graciously took on the role of judge for the day. The hire fee for Cambridge Road Baths was kindly covered by four Holme Valley landlords, further exemplifying the community spirit that surrounded this fundraising initiative. This heartwarming snapshot showcases not only these young swimmers' dedication but also highlights important values such as teamwork, perseverance, and giving back to one's community. It serves as a reminder that even in simpler times like those captured in this photograph from Memory Lane Prints, acts of charity can make a significant impact.
