Kirkburton Karate Club had success at the Northern Championships in Sheffield with second and third places in individual competition and a second place in a team event. Samantha James was runner-up in the junior girls 10-12 years event, closely followed by Sabrina Murphy, third, and twins Lisa and Michelle Benson, fourth and sixth respectively. Samantha and the twins were also runners up in the team event. The clubs B team were also fourth, represented by Sabrina, Terri Houghton and Christine Kershaw. Gavin McKenzie was fourth in the boys 12-13 years 4ft category and club coach Colin Hanson was also fourth in the senior mens 66-75kilo class.
