Here he is accompanied by Lieutenant General Ira C Eker, commander of the US 8th Air Force, talking to Second Lieutenant H. M. McFann, a crew member of a Flying Fortress which took part in a raid on Schweinfurt.
During the raid the pilot of the Fortress was killed and the co-pilot seriously injured. McFann took over the controls and flew the plane home to safety.
