Gateshead blasted back to the seventies with a special celebration to mark the town

Gateshead blasted back to the seventies with a special celebration to mark the towns part in the making of classic British film Get Carter, starring Michael Caine.
A commemorative plaqiue was revealed at the redeveloped Trinity Square site yesterday at the spot of the now-demolished multi-storey car park which was made famous in the 1971 gangster drama.
As well as the unveiling of the plaque, a 1970s- themed event took place at Trinity Square, which included a display of classic cars from the era and a VIP screening of the original film at Vue cinema.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Gateshead takes a nostalgic trip back to the groovy seventies, as it commemorates its role in the iconic British film Get Carter. The town celebrated with a special event at Trinity Square, where a commemorative plaque was unveiled on the site of the famous multi-storey car park featured in the 1971 gangster drama. The atmosphere was electric as locals and visitors immersed themselves in all things seventies. Classic cars from that era lined the streets, transporting everyone back in time. The vibrant colors and retro designs brought an air of nostalgia to Trinity Square, capturing the essence of this bygone era. As darkness fell, VIPs gathered at Vue cinema for an exclusive screening of Get Carter. Michael Caine's unforgettable performance captivated audiences once again, reminding them why this film has become such a timeless classic. This celebration not only honored Gateshead's contribution to British cinema history but also served as a reminder of how much has changed since those days. It was an opportunity for residents to reflect on their town's past while embracing its present transformation. Gateshead may have been blasted back to the seventies for just one day, but memories were made that will last a lifetime.
