Operation Pluto (pipe-lines under the ocean). First pictures

Operation Pluto (pipe-lines under the ocean). First pictures. One of the greatest supply stories of the war is now being told for the first time. It is the story of Operation Pluto (from the initial letters of Pipe-Lines Under the Ocean). It tells of the laying by unique methods of an oil pipe-line system under the English Channel by which the military operation of the Allied Armies in Europe were nourished. This system was devised by the Petroleum Warfare Department and its success owes much to the Prime Ministers interest. (These photographs tie up with the Ministry of Fuel and Power Press Conference of 22nd May 1945). Pictured, the first petrol pipe-line to Boulogne. British troops instal the T-Union valve in October 1944

Operation Pluto: A Lifeline Beneath the Waves In this photo print, we are transported back to a pivotal moment in history - Operation Pluto. These remarkable images unveil one of the greatest supply stories of World War Two, a tale that has remained shrouded in secrecy until now. Operation Pluto, derived from 'Pipe-Lines Under the Ocean, ' reveals an extraordinary feat accomplished by the Petroleum Warfare Department. With unwavering determination and ingenuity, British troops embarked on an audacious mission to lay an oil pipe-line system beneath the treacherous waters of the English Channel. This clandestine network became a lifeline for nourishing the Allied Armies during their critical operations in Europe. The success of Operation Pluto owes much to Prime Minister's fervent interest and support. The Ministry of Fuel and Power Press Conference held on May 22nd, 1945 shed light on these awe-inspiring photographs we see before us today. Captured within this image is a significant milestone - British troops diligently installing the T-Union valve into Boulogne's first petrol pipe-line in October 1944. Their tireless efforts ensured a constant flow of vital fuel to sustain military operations across enemy lines. As we gaze upon this historic scene, let us pay tribute to those unsung heroes who risked their lives beneath turbulent seas so that freedom could prevail. Let these photographs serve as enduring reminders of human resilience and innovation amidst conflict.
