EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to the year 1932, capturing a glimpse of Ashington's Station Road in Northumberland, England. Once a thriving coal mining town, Ashington is now home to around 27,000 residents. The photograph showcases the charm of this bustling street during the early 20th century. In this snapshot frozen in time, we see an array of architectural styles lining both sides of Station Road. The buildings exude character and history as they stand tall against the backdrop of a clear sky. Bicycles are scattered along the pavement, serving as a reminder of simpler times when pedal power was prevalent. The street comes alive with activity as various modes of transport traverse its length. A lorry makes its way through the crowd while pedestrians go about their daily routines. This image encapsulates not only the essence of urban life but also provides insight into how transportation has evolved over time. As we immerse ourselves in this nostalgic scene from almost nine decades ago, it becomes apparent that Ashington has undergone significant changes since then. However, glimpses like these allow us to appreciate and preserve our shared heritage. Memory Lane Prints presents this remarkable piece from their collection without any commercial intentions; instead offering us an opportunity to reflect on our past and cherish the rich history that shapes our present-day communities.
