EDITORS COMMENTS
In this delightful print from 9th December 1982, we witness the staff of Ormesby Secondary School in Stockwith Close going all out to support a noble cause. Dressed up in an array of costumes, they decided to "Go Ape" in aid of guide dogs for the blind. The headmaster himself, Phillip Willis, took on the role of a robber and found himself being apprehended by the long arms of the science department posing as police officers. The aim was to raise more than £250 from their entertaining performance which featured characters like Charlie Chaplin, Snowman, and even some ugly dames. This event has become an annual tradition at Ormesby Secondary School since then. As part of their fundraising efforts, each student made a donation as they left the assembly hall. Captured in this snapshot are three pupils - Stewart Rose, Glenn Thwaites, and Suzanne Chaplin - who appear both amused and bewildered by their teachers' whimsical transformation. One can only imagine what thoughts were running through their minds as they wondered if their beloved educators had temporarily lost their sanity. This heartwarming image not only showcases the dedication and creativity of these teachers but also highlights how communities come together to support important causes such as guide dogs for the blind. It serves as a reminder that sometimes it takes a little bit of silliness and fun to make a big difference in someone's life.
