Joe Lyons opens their Showboat Theatre restaurant at the Strand Corner House

Joe Lyons opens their Showboat Theatre restaurant at the Strand Corner House. 62-year-old Bill Lines, from Battersea, started at the Corner House just 30 years and three weeks ago, when it opened for the first time. In those days tea was a penny a cup, and so was toast. Nowadays Bill will serve champagne and oysters to the customers as they watch the hour-long show. The new restaurant cost £ 100, 000 to fit out as a luxurious nightspot where for 37/6 a head the customer can have a three course dinner, with a cabaret and dancing until 1am. 10th October 1965. © Mirrorpix
