The Police - pictured in London, during their promotional tour to launch their new single Every Breath You Take, released 20th May, and their first album for over a year, called, Synchronicitiy, released 17th June.
The Police were a British rock band formed in London in 1977. The Police became globally popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Emerging in the British new wave scene, they played a style of rock influenced by punk, reggae, and jazz. Aswell as five hit albums, including Outlandos d Amour and Reggatta de Blanc, they enjoyed global hit singles such as Roxanne, Message In A Bottle and Every Breath You Take. Band members were Stewart Copeland on drums, Sting (real name Gordon Sumner on lead vocals, bass, and the main songwriter) and Andy Summers on guitar. Henry Padovani was also their guitarist from January to August 1977, but left the band before they became famous.
