A famous West Wales lifeboat will be launched on a new career as the centrepiece of a maritime museum.
Enthusiasts have rescued the 81-year-old William Cantrell Ashley lifeboat which for more than 40 years was on station at New Quay, Wales.
The double-skinned lifeboat was the last rowed sail version to be used by the RNLI.
It was built by the London based Allied Iron Founders and entered service in 1907 at Newquay,
The lifeboat saw service in both world wars and took part in scores of rescues in atrocious sea conditions off the West Wales coast.
In 1948 the RNLI replaced the sail lifeboat with a powered boat and presented the old lifeboat to an outward bound centre in Aberdovey.
Subsequently it was used as a fishing boat in Milford Haven. and it was converted with an
engine and cabin.
It was found in this modified state by officials of the New Quay Maritime Museum, who bought it for £3, 000 and transported it to their seaside town to await restoration.

The town of New Quay welcomed a new, 16-foot inflatable lifeboat bought with proceeds from a charity concert.
RNLI chaplain for New Quay the Rev David Lloyd held a service of dedication for the single-engine boat at the seaside station.
But the dinghy has already proved worth its salt with eight rescues, saving 24 lives, since its arrival at the
station a month ago.
