HMS Resolution, Britain's first Polaris submarine, goes down the slipway at Vickers Shipyard, Barrow in Furness, after being named by the Queen Mother. Protestors against Britain's Polaris programme stood with placards on the approach road as the Queen Mother arrived at Vickers Armstrong Shipyard for the naming and launching ceremony. HMS Resolution, about 7, 000 tons, is one of four Polaris submarines which should be operational by 1970

The crown made for Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, on the coronation of King George VI when she was Queen Consort. The crown was made by Messrs. Garrard, and mounted in platinum. The foundation is a circlet used by Queen Victoria for court functions, and the Koh-i-Noor diamond is set in the front cross-pate springing from it.
