EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a remarkable specimen of Chalcophyllite, discovered in the Wheal Gorland mine located in St Day, Gwennap, Cornwall, England. The coarse crystals of this secondary mineral are truly mesmerizing and have been beautifully captured by photographer Andy Tindle. Collector Philip Rashleigh described these transparent six-sided thin crystals as being composed of copper ore. Intermingled with them are eight-sided crystals of green copper ore upon red copper ore mixed with white pyrites. This particular specimen holds immense significance as it is from the type locality and was part of the renowned Rashleigh Collection. Chalcophyllite is an emerald-green mineral that forms hexagonal platy crystals. It belongs to the arsenate family and contains traces of both arsenic and copper. Its unique coloration adds a touch of vibrancy to any collection or display. The Wheal Gorland mine has played a significant role in Cornish geology and mining history. This photograph not only captures the beauty of this rare mineral but also serves as a reminder of Cornwall's rich mining heritage
