EDITORS COMMENTS
Caption: In this historic photo print, we witness the poignant moment of the unveiling ceremony for the Kenwyn War Memorial on June 27th, 1920. The junction of Kenwyn Hill and Knights Hill in Truro, Cornwall became a gathering place for approximately 2000 individuals who came to pay their respects to those parish members who had made the ultimate sacrifice during World War I. The Duke of Cornwall, later known as Prince of Wales and eventually Edward VIII, took center stage as he unveiled this solemn memorial that would forever honor the fallen heroes. Captured by photographer Arthur William Jordan, this image transports us back in time to a significant event that held great importance for both local residents and visitors alike. The Kenwyn War Memorial stands as a symbol of remembrance and gratitude towards those brave souls who fought valiantly in defense of their country. As time passed and another global conflict emerged, additional names were added to this sacred monument following World War II. This remarkable photograph serves not only as a testament to history but also reminds us of the enduring spirit within communities when faced with adversity. It is an invaluable piece preserved by the Royal Cornwall Museum that captures a momentous occasion marking unity, respect, and eternal commemoration.
