EDITORS COMMENTS
Truro School, formerly Truro College, stands proudly in this vintage print from the early 1900s. Covered in a lush blanket of ivy, the school's exterior exudes a sense of history and academic excellence. Established as Truro Wesleyan Middle Class College in 1879, it officially opened its doors to students in 1880 and quickly gained recognition as Truro College. Originally situated on River Street before moving to Strangways Terrace, the iconic building captured in this photograph was unveiled in 1882. Its grand facade showcases architectural elegance that has withstood the test of time. As we peer into the past through this image, we witness a moment frozen forever - boys seated on benches at the front of the school. The photographer behind this snapshot remains unknown, but their lens immortalized an educational institution that would later be renamed Truro School in 1932. This historic landmark has played a vital role in shaping young minds for over a century. With its roots deeply embedded within Cornish soil and nestled amidst the vibrant cityscape of Truro, this photograph encapsulates not only education and schooling but also serves as a testament to Cornwall's rich cultural heritage.
