Black anemonefish

Black anemonefish (Amphiprion melanopus) in their host anemone. The female (right) is far larger than the male (left). This fish, also known as the fire clownfish, is found on the coral reefs of the tropical Pacific Ocean. It lives in the stinging tentacles of a sea anemone, to which it is immune. This affords it protection against predators, which would be stung by the anemone. The fish picks parasites from its host anemone, thus forming a symbiotic (mutually beneficial) relationship with it. The black anemonefish can reach a length of around 12 centimetres. It is sometimes sold in the aquarium trade. Photographed in Sulawesi, Indonesia

This print captures the mesmerizing beauty of the Black anemonefish, also known as Amphiprion melanopus, in their natural habitat. The image showcases a fascinating contrast between the male and female fish, with the female appearing significantly larger than her male counterpart. These enchanting creatures can be found thriving amidst the vibrant coral reefs of the tropical Pacific Ocean. They have developed a remarkable survival strategy by forming a unique bond with sea anemones. The black anemonefish not only seeks protection within its host but also establishes a mutually beneficial relationship. It diligently picks parasites from its beloved sea anemone, ensuring both parties benefit from this symbiotic alliance.
