Celestial planisphere, 1700 C016 / 4385

Celestial planisphere. 18th-century astronomy diagrams centred around a planisphere of stars and the southern constellations. The Sun and Mercury are at upper left. The Moon and Venus are at upper right. Lunar craters are labelled and named. At lower right are Mars, Jupiter and Saturn (including the moons of the latter two). The planets are represented by their astrological symbols. A solar eclipse is at lower left. The tables show planetary distances and magnitudes, and the longitudinal motion of the fixed stars according to Tycho and Riccioli. This page is from Planisphaerii coelestis hemisphaerium meridionale (1700) by the Dutch cartographer Carel Allard (1648-1709)
