Diagram of Mir space station

Diagram of the Mir space station in an early configuration. Seen here is the Mir core module with a Soyuz spacecraft docked to it (left). Mir ( Peace ) was launched by the USSR in February 1986 and spent 15 years in orbit around the Earth, being used to carry out numerous scientific experiments. In its final configuration it had a further six modules attached to it. Mir was de-orbited on 23 March 2001, resulting in its break- up over the Pacific Ocean

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a detailed diagram of the Mir space station in its early configuration. The image captures the Mir core module, which served as the foundation for this remarkable Soviet achievement. Adjacent to it is a Soyuz spacecraft, elegantly docked and ready for exploration. Launched by the USSR in February 1986, Mir (meaning "Peace") spent an impressive 15 years orbiting our planet Earth. Throughout its existence, this pioneering space station played host to countless scientific experiments that pushed the boundaries of knowledge and discovery. As time progressed, Mir expanded its capabilities with six additional modules attached to its core structure. This expansion allowed for even more ambitious research endeavors and further solidified Russia's position at the forefront of space exploration during the late 20th century. However, all good things must come to an end. On March 23rd, 2001, after completing its mission objectives and paving the way for future advancements in orbital technology, Mir was intentionally de-orbited over the Pacific Ocean. Its descent resulted in a spectacular breakup that marked both an end and a new beginning for humanity's ventures beyond our home planet. The artwork presented here beautifully encapsulates not only a significant milestone in Russian space history but also symbolizes mankind's relentless pursuit of knowledge through scientific progress.
