Dicotyledon plant stem, light micrograph

Dicotyledon plant stem. Light micrograph of a longitudinal radial section through a typical dicotyledon stem. The section has passed through a vascular bundle and other stem tissue (some of which have ring thickening, red). The tissue layers at right are mostly xylem and parenchyma. There is also a layer of cambium (light blue, centre). Several rows of phloem sieve tubes (yellow-green) are at centre left. At left are large parenchyma cells (blue) of the inner cortex of the stem. Magnification: x45 when printed at 10 centimetres high

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the intricate beauty of a dicotyledon plant stem, as seen through a light micrograph. The image captures a longitudinal radial section that reveals various components of the stem's internal structure. A prominent feature is the vascular bundle, surrounded by other stem tissues exhibiting ring thickening, depicted in striking red hues. The tissue layers on the right side predominantly consist of xylem and parenchyma cells, responsible for water transport and storage respectively. In the center lies a layer of cambium cells, characterized by their light blue coloration. Towards the left side, we observe several rows of phloem sieve tubes colored in yellow-green, which play a crucial role in nutrient distribution throughout the plant. Notably, large parenchyma cells with a mesmerizing blue shade can be observed in the inner cortex of the stem on the left side. These cells contribute to structural support and serve as storage sites for essential substances. With an impressive magnification level of 45 times when printed at 10 centimeters high, this photograph allows us to appreciate nature's intricacy at its finest. It serves as both an educational tool for botany enthusiasts and an artistic representation highlighting the astonishing cellular architecture present within dicotyledon plants' stems.
