Edward Thorndike, American psychologist
Edward Lee Thorndike (1874-1949), American psychologist. In 1899 Thorndike was employed as instructor in genetics psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University, New York, USA, and remained there for the rest of his career. He became director of the division of psychology of the Institute of Educational Research in 1922. His work in educational psychology, mainly in the methods he devised to test and measure childrens intelligence and their ability to learn, led to the theory of connectionism. Connectionism helped lay the scientific foundation for modern educational psychology
